Lafayette concrete contractor focused on what's underneath

A broad light-gray concrete sidewalk with expansion joints runs beside a brick building, lawn, shrubs and black railings.

Why I started a concrete company in Lafayette

Thank you for taking a moment to learn who we are. I spent my summers through school on concrete crews, hauling forms, tying steel and learning to finish next to people who had done it for years, and I stayed with the work after I graduated. In 2023 I started Bedrock Lafayette Concrete here in Lafayette. Most of our calls come from homeowners in Lafayette and the cities around it. We're best known for careful flatwork, the flat concrete around a house like driveways, patios and walkways, and we handle the rest of the concrete work we offer across the East Bay too.

What I care about most is the part you can't see once the pour is done. That starts with the subgrade, the packed ground the slab sits on. Then there's the rebar, the steel inside that holds the slab together, and the control joints, the lines we cut so a crack forms where we planned it and not wherever it likes. I'll also tell you plainly that concrete can crack. I'd rather explain what we do to keep that in check than promise you something no honest contractor can. If a question belongs with an engineer or the permit office, I'll say so, and if you'd like to talk through your own project, you can get in touch with us here.

What you can count on when you hire us

Three habits shape every job we take on, from a short walkway to a full driveway.

The owner who quotes it watches it get built

I come out to look at every job myself, and I work on site alongside our crew. The person who walked your yard and wrote your estimate is the one checking the work, right through to the final look together.

Most of our time goes under the surface

We dig out and pack the ground before any concrete arrives, because a base that's only raked level settles with the dirt and takes the slab down with it. If the budget needs trimming, I'll suggest saving on the finish before the base, since you can redo a surface later but not what's underneath it.

Permit offices worked out before we schedule

In Lafayette, building permits and inspections run through Contra Costa County, sometimes after a zoning check with the city. We sort out with you which offices your project goes through and handle the paperwork with you as part of the job. We're fully licensed and insured, and the state requires a contractor's license whenever a job needs a building permit or costs $1,000 or more.

How a job goes with us

Every project follows the same four steps, so you know what's coming before anything gets poured.

  1. Call or send us the form

Call (925) 298-0707 or fill out the form on our contact page, and expect a reply within one business day. Tell us what you're seeing, whether that's cracks, sinking or water pooling near the house, so I know what to look for.

  2. Walk the site together

I come out to look at the ground, where the water runs and how a truck will reach the spot, then give you a free quote on site with no pressure to book. The size of the area, how much digging and base work it needs, access and the finish you choose are what move the price, and any permit steps usually decide when we can start.

  3. Sort out permits, then set the date

Before anything goes on the calendar, we confirm with you whether your project goes through the city, the county or both, and we work through the paperwork together. If something needs an engineer's eye, I'll tell you so plainly.

  4. Build it carefully and look it over with you

We keep materials where they belong, protect your plantings and nearby surfaces, and cut the joints on time so cracks have a planned place to go. Once the slab is in, it needs time to cure, the wait while it hardens to strength, so I'll tell you when it's ready to walk and drive on and then walk the finished work with you.

Ask about your project and its permits

Call (925) 298-0707 or send our contact form, and I'll come out, look at the ground and the drainage, and talk you through the permit steps before you decide anything.

Thank you for reading, and if you have a question about your driveway, patio or slab, I'm glad to talk it through.
