A Lafayette concrete business started by someone who learned on the crew

We're fully licensed and insured. That matters in California, because the state licensing board requires a license for any job that needs a building permit, uses hired workers, or costs $1,000 or more in labor and materials, which takes in almost any slab, wall or foundation. About our business

Thank you for taking a look. I spent my summers through school on concrete crews, hauling forms, tying steel and learning to finish next to people who had done it for years. I kept at it after graduating and started Bedrock Lafayette Concrete here in Lafayette in 2023.

Concrete work in Lafayette, CA and the East Bay

Bedrock Lafayette Concrete is a concrete contractor in Lafayette, CA, and our 16 services run from new driveways, patios and walkways to foundations, walls and cutting. People usually call about cracks, sinking or pooling water, or about something they want built new. The price turns mostly on size and thickness, how much ground has to be dug out and packed, any old concrete to haul away, the steel inside and how plain or decorative the finish is. The schedule turns on which city or county offices your project goes through and on curing, the wait while new concrete gains strength before you can walk or drive on it. I'll give you your own figure once I've seen the site.

  1. A wide gray concrete driveway leads to the entrance of a brick house, framed by brick pillars and landscaped beds.

    Concrete driveway building

We dig out, pack a firm base and pour new concrete driveways for homeowners, with steel inside and joints cut so cracks follow lines we picked.

  2. A tan stamped concrete patio with irregular stone-like patterns extends alongside a stone-clad house.

    Concrete patio construction

Want a place outside for a table and chairs? We build concrete patios sloped away from your house, so rain runs off instead of pooling by the walls.

  3. A dark gray stamped-concrete patio with irregular stone-like patterns sits beside a stone wall and potted plants.

    Stamped concrete services

Stamped concrete is pressed with patterns and colored while it's still soft, so a patio, walkway or pool surround can look like stone or brick.

  4. A broad light-gray concrete sidewalk with expansion joints runs beside a brick building, lawn, shrubs and black railings.

    Concrete sidewalk building

If a walkway has heaved or cracked into a trip hazard, we replace it with a new sidewalk on a packed base, broom-finished for grip.

  5. Dark stamped concrete patio with an irregular stone pattern surrounds a circular fire pit and low masonry wall.

    Garage floor concrete

A garage floor carries the weight of cars, so we pour it on a packed base with steel inside, whether you're replacing a cracked floor or building new.

  6. A stamped-concrete patio with a low stone border surrounds a round fire table and woven chairs in a landscaped yard.

    Decorative concrete

Decorative concrete covers color, exposed stone, special textures and borders, for owners who want a driveway, patio or entry to match the house rather than look plain gray.

  7. A stone and concrete patio with large gray pavers, a raised fire pit, and warm lights built into low brick walls.

    Concrete retaining walls

Where a slope is pushing soil onto your yard or driveway, we build reinforced concrete retaining walls with footings and drainage behind them to hold the ground back.

  8. A driveway with a reddish-brown stamped concrete apron leading to a light gray concrete section beside a landscaped home.

    Concrete floor installation

Concrete floor installation means interior slabs for basements, workshops, storage buildings and commercial spaces, poured level and finished smooth for whatever goes on top.

  9. A large light-gray concrete pool deck surrounds a rectangular swimming pool, with lounge chairs and a white house beyond.

    Concrete pool decks

Around a pool, concrete has to drain well and stay safe underfoot, so we build pool decks sloped away from the water with a textured, slip-resistant finish.

  10. Concrete steps descend beside pale stone retaining walls into a landscaped yard with a curving gravel path.

    Concrete steps construction

Are your front steps cracked, uneven or pulling away from the house? We form and pour new concrete steps with even step heights and steel inside.

  11. A broad tan decorative concrete driveway with a tiled pattern in front of a house and landscaped yard.

    Slab foundation building

For a new home, addition or garage, we build slab foundations on packed, prepared ground, with the steel set and checked before the pour.

  12. Two wide exposed-aggregate concrete steps lead to a porch beside a red brick wall.

    Foundation installation

Foundation installation means the concrete walls and footings under houses, additions and commercial buildings, built to the plans your engineer draws and the building department approves.

  13. Concrete pool deck of gray rectangular pavers surrounds a turquoise pool beside a lakeside lawn and glass railing.

    Concrete parking lot building

Businesses, churches and apartment owners call us for concrete parking lots, built thicker where trucks turn and graded so water runs to the drains.

  14. Concrete patio with pale pavers sits below a raised deck, supported by a stone retaining wall.

    Concrete footings

Footings are the concrete pads and strips buried under decks, posts, walls and additions, and we dig, form and pour them to the size your plans call for.

  15. Top-down view of a curved swimming pool, attached spa, and pale concrete patio with lounge chairs.

    Foundation raising

When a house has settled and doors stick or floors slope, we lift it back toward level and set new support underneath, following an engineer's plan.

  16. Rectangular pool and pale stone deck beneath a screened enclosure, with geometric grass-and-paver sections.

    Concrete cutting

Need a doorway, trench or damaged section opened up? We saw-cut concrete slabs and walls so plumbers, electricians and repair crews can work without breaking up the rest.

What you can expect when we take on your job

Thank you for considering us for your project. These are the things I hold our crew to on every job, and our promise behind them is simple. Your satisfaction, guaranteed. When you're ready to talk it through, please call (925) 298-0707 or fill in the form below.

  • The person who quotes your job helps build it

I come out to look at each job myself and then work on site alongside our crew. That way the details we agreed on during the estimate are the details I'm watching on pour day.

  • Permit offices sorted out before we schedule

In Lafayette, building permits and inspections are handled by Contra Costa County, and the process can start with a zoning plan check at the city. We work out with you which offices your project goes through and handle the permit paperwork with you as part of the job.

  • A tidy site, with your plantings protected

We keep materials stored where they belong and cover plantings and nearby surfaces while we work. Concrete splatter and washout can stain paving, siding and beds that were fine before we arrived, so we keep them out of the way.

Brick entry steps with black railings lead to a dark front door, with a paved walkway and trimmed shrubs in front.

Why we spend our time on what's underneath

I'll be straight with you. Concrete can crack, and what keeps it in check is mostly the part you can't see once it's poured. That's why we dig out soft dirt and pack a firm subgrade, the ground the slab sits on, instead of raking it level, and check where the water runs so the slab falls away from your house. We set rebar, the steel that holds a slab together if it does crack, and we cut control joints, shallow grooves that give cracks a planned place to go, on time rather than late. We also plan the pour so finishing isn't rushed in the heat of the day, because a hurried top can turn weak and dusty later.

That hidden work is also the first thing a tight budget wants to cut, since nobody sees the base once the forms come off. If something has to give, I'll suggest a plainer surface before a thinner base, because a decorative finish on poor ground settles and cracks right along with the dirt, while a plain broom finish on good ground has a much better chance of holding up. I'll lay out both choices, and the decision is yours.
